A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Karaoke Night last Saturday! It was a fantastic evening of music, fun, and connection — and together we raised $753 for our school community. Whether you took the mic or cheered from the crowd, your support made the night one to remember.
🌌 Matariki Breakfast – Thank You!
We’d like to extend our warmest thanks to the Friends of the School for hosting a beautiful Matariki Breakfast on Thursday morning. It was a special way to come together and celebrate the Māori New Year with warmth, reflection, and aroha. Ngā mihi nui to all who helped, attended, and supported the morning.
🏀 Construction Update – New Court Coming Soon!
The build for our new sports court is well underway! We’re excited to share that by Term 3, our tamariki will be shooting hoops and scoring goals on a brand-new court for basketball and netball. While the construction continues, please take care when moving around the school and follow the directions of the building team, especially when accessing Ruru and Pukeko classrooms.
🏃♂️ Inter-school Sports and Cross Country
A big well done to all our students who took part in the Catholic Inter-school Sports Day and the Years 4–6 Hamilton West Inter-school Cross Country. At both events, our tamariki truly showed the character of our school. Host schools and other participants praised their enthusiasm, enjoyment, and sportsmanship, even in challenging conditions.
It was a proud principal moment to see our students represent St Pius X with such heart, humility, and joy. Ka mau te wehi, tamariki mā!

Enrolments for Younger Siblings – 2026 & 2027
Our school roll is currently full until Term 2, 2026.
If you have younger children due to start school in 2026 or 2027, and they have older siblings already at St. Pius X, please let the office know as soon as possible. This helps us with future planning and ensures a smooth start for your tamariki. Thank you to those families that have already done this.
🏡 Moving On? Please Let Us Know
If your whānau is planning to move away from our school — whether at the end of the year or sooner — please let us know as soon as you can. This helps us with future planning, class placements, and managing our growing waitlist.
We understand that changes happen, and we will fully support you and your child through the transition. Just get in touch with the office or your child’s teacher when you know.
Ngā mihi nui for being such strong partners in your children’s education. Together, we’re creating a positive and focused environment where every learner can thrive.
Lunch Order Options – Supporting Local!
We have a few great lunch options available during the week:
🥙 Tuesdays & Wednesdays – Kebab Stop You can now order lunches from the Kebab Stop on Urlich Ave. Orders can be placed directly at orders.kebabstop.co.nz and will be delivered to the school office in time for lunch. This is a convenient option for families, and a great way to support a local business! 🍕 Thursday – Pizza Thursday Pizza can be ordered at school on Thursday mornings and is delivered in time for lunch. This is a fundraiser to support end-of-year camps and EOTC activities, so every slice helps. Thank you for supporting our tamariki! 🍔 Friday – Tommo’s Lunches Our regular Tommo’s lunch orders will continue on Fridays as usual.
Enjoy the upcoming Matariki weekend.
Ngā mihi nui Erin Clayton (Principal)
Enrolments close on Wednesday 2 July.
2025 CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS
Hamilton West Inter-school Cross country
🏅 Cross Country Courage – A True Team Effort
Our Years 4–6 cross country runners showed true grit and school spirit last week in what turned out to be one of the most memorable (and soggiest!) sports days yet. The call came early on the morning of the event — despite heavy rain overnight and more forecasted, the cross country was going ahead. With coats on and smiles wide, our team set off with joy and enthusiasm, ready to give it their all.
When they arrived, they quickly realised they were the only school to show up, apart from the hosts. Even as the team walked the course and found it slippery and treacherous, they stayed positive. The skies opened once again, and the event had to be called off for safety reasons — but not once did our team lose their spark. In fact, our students volunteered to help collect the course markers. Their positive energy and can-do attitude didn’t go unnoticed — Deanwell School made a special point of acknowledging their incredible spirit.
It was a moment that truly reflected what we value most at St Pius X — resilience, kindness, and community. We couldn’t be prouder of our cross country crew. Ngā mihi nui, tamariki mā — you represented our school beautifully!
Another amazing win 34-12 for the Blue Beast Basketball Team. Player of the day Eric.
Our Cardinals finished as the Top PeeWee Squad and a few players will move into Division 3 in Term 3
Players of the Term are Willow Hunter and Pypa Evers
OUR PEOPLE
Kia ora! My name is Aimee McLeod, and I’m excited to be joining the St Pius x School community as a full-time teacher starting in Term 3. I’m a beginning teacher who completed my studies in 2024. I have spent this year relieving in and around Hamilton, which is how I discovered St Pius, a small school with a big heart that I quickly fell in love with. Teaching has been my dream since I was three years old, and my passion has only grown as I’ve learned what it truly means to help students grow into confident, capable learners. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, and doing all kinds of arts and crafts, including painting, drawing, sewing, and fixing things.

**A Fantastic Night of Song and Support at St. Pius X**
This past Saturday night, the St. Pius X School community came together for an evening of music, laughter, and generosity at our Karaoke Fundraiser Night at Glenview Club —and what a night it was! From energetic duets to heartfelt solos, the stage came alive with talent and enthusiasm from everyone. It was truly a celebration of our school spirit and the joy that comes from coming together for a good cause.
The event was a wonderful success. Teachers took the mic, parents joined in on funky tunes, even some special performances by our students. It was a fun-filled evening that reminded us all how powerful and uplifting a little music—and a lot of community—can be.
Thanks to your support, we not only raised valuable funds for our school, but also created lasting memories. Whether you sang your heart out or cheered from the sidelines, your presence made the night special. We’re especially grateful to our volunteers and staff who worked behind the scenes and in front to keep everything running smoothly.
Special thanks to Zyryl for creating a stunning backdrop for the Karaoke night. Jessie and Vanessa for organising and keeping the night running. These two managed to keep the songs coming and get everyone motivated.
Also a huge thank you to Glenview Club for supporting us and sponsoring the Karaoke and Food for our fundraising event.
We look forward to more events like this that bring our school family together. Until then, thank you for being part of what made Karaoke Night such a joyful and successful evening!
Money raised toward our goals from the evening $753.60
Why Do We Fundraise?
Kia ora whānau,
At St Pius X School, fundraising helps us give your children the best learning experience possible. The money raised goes towards extra resources like sports gear, classroom supplies, technology, school trips, and fun events for our tamariki.
In New Zealand, schools receive some money from the government, but not everything is covered. Fundraising helps us provide more opportunities and support for our learners.
We know that many families are new to how schools work in New Zealand. Please know that every little bit of support—whether it’s time, donations, or helping at events—makes a big difference.
Thank you for being part of our school community!
Ngā mihi nui, St Pius X Friends of the School

Signing in and out at the office
Please, please, please, sign your child in if they miss the first bell and out if you are taking them from school early!!!!
and.................
you MUST MUST sign your child out, if you are taking them before 2:30pm. This is all about your child's safety. If we were to have a fire, lockdown etc and you have taken your child and not signed them out, we would be in a situation where we assume they are missing!!
This year, School Board elections are taking place across the country. We encourage you to consider whether you might like to represent our parent community by standing for election to our Board of Trustees.
Further information about the elections, including confirmed dates, will be shared as soon as it becomes available.
The NZTD (travellerdeclaration.govt.nz) is an online system that travellers can use to complete a declaration before they travel into New Zealand. The new digital NZTD was launched in August 2023 and not many people know they can now do it online – replacing the paper card you used to fill out on the plane.
