Principal's Message
Miss Erin Clayton
Kia ora e te whānau,
We hope you are all keeping warm as we head into the winter months! Here are some updates and reminders for our school community:
🙏 Thank You – Parish Mass
A big thank you to everyone who came along to our school Parish Mass on Sunday. It was wonderful to see so many of our families there. A special thank you to the students who took on important roles in the Mass – you did a great job. Thank you also to our staff for their support, and especially to Mrs O and Mrs Garsed for helping to organise everything.
🎤 School Karaoke Night – Tickets Coming Home!
Keep an eye out for a notice coming home with your child – it's all about our upcoming Karaoke Night fundraiser for the Friends of the School! We’re raising money for a permanent notice board and a mobile gazebo for school events.
Come dressed as your best rock star – we can’t wait to see your outfits and hear your songs! 🎸🎤
🚗 Carpark Safety – Thank You
Thank you for your patience and care in the carpark while our work was being done. Please continue to think about safe and alternative pick-up spots to help ease the traffic at 2.45pm.
Our Years 7 and 8 Walking School Bus will keep walking, with older students walking younger siblings out of the school gates and around to Dermont. This is a big help with keeping things calm and safe at pick-up time.
👑 King’s Birthday – School Closed Monday
Just a reminder that school will be closed this Monday (2 June) for the King’s Birthday public holiday. We hope you enjoy the long weekend with your whānau.
⭐ Catholic Schools Day – “You Will Shine Like Stars in the World”
Thank you for supporting Catholic Schools Day on Wednesday! It’s a special time to celebrate what makes our Catholic schools unique across Aotearoa.
Our theme this year was “You will shine like stars in the world”, and it was lovely to see our students proudly wearing their house colours, joining in the fun of tabloid sports at 12pm, and finishing the day together at our 2pm School Mass.
📝 Mid-Year Reporting and Parent Interviews
As this is a short and busy term, mid-year reports and parent interviews have been scheduled for early Term 3. This allows teachers the time needed for proper assessment and teaching, especially with the interruptions from public holidays and teacher professional learning days.

Over the next few weeks, you might notice some changes in our teaching team. These changes are to help us give extra support to students and roll out the new Literacy curriculum.
Staffing Update – Supporting Our Learners
Over the next few weeks, you might notice some changes in our teaching team. These changes are to help us give extra support to students and roll out the new Literacy curriculum.
Mrs Williams will be stepping out of her usual class role to work closely with small groups of junior learners with structured literacy. In her place, Mrs Garsed and Ms Rutherford will be teaching in Pīwakawaka, alongside Mrs O. All three teachers know our tamariki well and will make sure learning continues smoothly.
Thank you for your support as we make these changes to best meet the needs of our learners.
First Holy Communion & Confirmation – This Sunday
First Holy Communion & Confirmation – This Sunday
This Sunday at 9am, some of our students will be receiving the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. This is a very special step in their faith journey.
All are warmly welcome to join us for the Mass and celebrate with our candidates. Please keep them in your prayers as they complete their Sacraments of Initiation.
Ngā mihi nui for being such strong partners in your children’s education.
Together, we’re creating a positive and focused environment where every learner can thrive.

Lunch order options
The Kebab shop on Urlich Ave, is offering ordered Lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday. Find more details on their website orders.kebabstop.co.nz. They can be ordered by you anytime and will be delivered to the office in time for the children to eat. We will continue with our Tommo's orders on Friday. We are proud to support local business.
On Thursday we will be having Pizza Thursday. Pizza is ordered at school on Thursday morning and delivered in time for Lunch. We sell Pizza as a way to fundraise for the end of year camps and EOTC. Please support this when you can.

Student Health – When to Stay Home and When to Come to School
As we head into the colder months, we often see an increase in common illnesses such as colds, flu, and tummy bugs. We want to make sure our students are well and able to engage fully in their learning, while also keeping our school community as healthy as possible.
The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health have provided updated guidance to help families decide when to keep children home and when they can attend school, even if mildly unwell.
✅ Children can come to school if they:
- Have a mild runny nose or slight cough but are otherwise well and active
- Have been sick earlier in the week but have improved and have energy to learn
- Do not have a fever and are eating, drinking, and participating normally
❌ Children should stay home if they:
- Have a fever or are feeling hot and flushed
- Are vomiting or have had diarrhoea (must stay home for at least 48 hours after the last episode)
- Have a frequent or severe cough, or are generally unwell or lethargic
- Have COVID-19
If you're ever unsure whether your child should attend school, please err on the side of caution or speak to your GP or Healthline (0800 611 116).
Keeping unwell students at home helps protect others—especially those who are more vulnerable—and also gives your child the best chance to rest and recover properly.
Thank you for working with us to keep our school community healthy while learning

🧥 Winter Uniform Expectations
With the start of the new term, students should now be wearing the winter school uniform. Please check that your child is dressed appropriately each day and all uniform items are clearly named.
Footwear (All Students):
- Black, flat shoes (Crocs or similar styles are not permitted)
Boys:
- Grey shorts
- Long sleeve school polo
- School jumper or jacket
- Grey socks with blue stripes or navy knee-high socks
Girls:
- Tunic, school skirt, or blue skort
- Note: The tunic and grey skort have been discontinued as new items but can still be worn.
- The blue skort is only available new from the school uniform shop.
- Long sleeve school polo
- School jumper or jacket
- Grey socks with blue stripes or navy knee-high socks
We’ve recently added navy knee-high socks as an option due to supply issues with grey socks.
If your child is not in correct uniform on a given day, please inform their teacher. For permanent uniform changes, a written explanation must be provided to the Principal, in accordance with our uniform policy.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring our students feel prepared, supported, and part of our school community.
Ngā mihi nui
Erin Clayton (Principal)
