📚 Winter Term Reminders – Attendance, Supervision & Uniform
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we continue through the winter term, we’d like to share a few important reminders to support student wellbeing, safety, and readiness for learning.
⏰ Attendance & Punctuality
Our school day begins promptly at 8:45am. Your child should be in class and ready for learning by this time. Students arriving after 8:45am must sign in at the office.
With the Government’s focus on school attendance, we are closely monitoring patterns of lateness. If a student is consistently late, we may need to create an intervention plan to ensure they are making the most of their learning opportunities.
Starting the day on time helps children settle in calmly and feel connected. Arriving late can increase anxiety and cause students to miss important social and instructional time.
Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives on time each day.

🕗 Before-School Supervision
If your child arrives before 8:15am, please note that there is no active supervision as teaching staff are preparing for the school day.
To keep students safe, those who arrive early are asked to sit quietly on the steps of the admin building until 8:15am. At that time, they may go and put their bags and belongings away.
This mirrors our end-of-day routine, where students wait on the same steps after 3:00pm to be collected.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
🧥 Winter Uniform Expectations
With the start of the new term, students should now be wearing the winter school uniform. Please check that your child is dressed appropriately each day and all uniform items are clearly named.
Footwear (All Students):
- Black, flat shoes (Crocs or similar styles are not permitted)
Boys:
- Grey shorts
- Long sleeve school polo
- School jumper or jacket
- Grey socks with blue stripes or navy knee-high socks
Girls:
- Tunic, school skirt, or blue skort
- Note: The tunic and grey skort have been discontinued as new items but can still be worn.
- The blue skort is only available new from the school uniform shop.
- Long sleeve school polo
- School jumper or jacket
- Grey socks with blue stripes or navy knee-high socks
We’ve recently added navy knee-high socks as an option due to supply issues with grey socks.
If your child is not in correct uniform on a given day, please inform their teacher. For permanent uniform changes, a written explanation must be provided to the Principal, in accordance with our uniform policy.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring our students feel prepared, supported, and part of our school community.
Monday Teacher only Day
We have an upcoming Teacher Only Day on Monday the 19th May. This day is a chance for the teachers and teacher aides to work with outside facilitators to explore the new Maths curriculum. School will be closed for instruction on this day. The staff are not onsite as this is a collaborative Teacher Only Day with a number of other Catholic Primary schools.

Lunch order options
The Kebab shop on Urlich Ave, is offering ordered Lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday. Find more details on their website orders.kebabstop.co.nz. They can be ordered by you anytime and will be delivered to the office in time for the children to eat. We will continue with our Tommo's orders on Friday. We are proud to support local business.
On Thursday we will be having Pizza Thursday. Pizza is ordered at school on Thursday morning and delivered in time for Lunch. We sell Pizza as a way to fundraise for the end of year camps and EOTC. Please support this when you can.

Continued work at the front gate and parking for pick up and drop off
As I am sure you are all aware there is ongoing utility work at the front gate. This has changed the access and accessibility of the Church carpark. The parks under the trees at the entrance are now needed for a clearway and can absolutely not be parked in to enable a clear and safe access.
To try and combat some of the congestion we are going to walk the Years 7 and 8 students with their younger siblings to Dermont Street for pick up. The Year 6 will go to the front of the Church. This will hopefully mean 55 families have an alternative collection point other than the Church carpark. If you would like your child to join this walking school bus to Dermont street please message the office or your class teacher and we will add them to the 'stride and ride' walking school bus. If this is successful we may look into 'stride and ride' walking school buses on Odette Street and Pollen Cres as well.
If this does not work the school will have to explore other options to ensure a safe pick up at the end of the day.

SACRED HEART ENROLMENTS
Over the last 2 years, Sacred Heart have not had places for non-preference students - even those attending our school. So, if there are students who have set their heart on attending Sacred Heart - they will need to get their preference cards organised when they enrol. They have a few - though clearly Catholic families - who have not submitted their preference cards with their enrolment. They have had approximately 120 enrolments for year 9 next year and a further 60 sitting as drafts. There will be approximately 210 places available.
