Principal's Message
Miss Erin Clayton

Kia ora koutou
Happy Easter and welcome to term 2. I hope everyone made the most of the family time and good weather we had during the break.
We were saddened to hear the news of Pope Francis passing during that time. He was an amazingly compassionate guide for our Church and his wise leadership truly led our Faith in the world. Our thoughts and prayers go to him and our Church leaders as they prepare to enter Conclave.
Lord Jesus, you have called Pope Francis to yourself. Thank you for the gift of his papacy. When he was with us, he tirelessly showed the Church your constant mercy toward sinners. Grant him now your mercy and let him rest eternally with you in your Kingdom.
This term is simply going to fly by with only 9 weeks of learning before the children have the next term break. We have 3 short weeks within this term with the Public holidays of King's Birthday (2nd June) and Matariki (20th June) coming up, as well as a Teacher Only Day (19th May) where the staff are working with other schools and the Ministry of Education to unpack the new Maths curriculum further. This short term also makes attendances even more important. Every day counts towards your child's education. The next two terms are our winter terms and coughs and colds are common. If you are unsure of when to have your child off school refer to the ministry guidelines. We continue to work with the Ministry of Education on their priority of 90% attendance for all students.
Reports and Parent interviews
The shortened term means Mid-year reports and progress interviews have been deferred until the first 2 weeks of Term 3. This will ensure quality assessment and reporting is in place. More information regarding reports and interviews will be available in the later half of the term. As always if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's learning, achievement or progress please don't hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.

Continued work at the front gate and parking for pick up and drop off
As I am sure you are all aware there is ongoing utility work at the front gate. This has changed the access and accessibility of the Church carpark. The parks under the trees at the entrance are now needed for a clearway and can absolutely not be parked in to enable a clear and safe access.
The carpark can only be a one way system following the arrows around.
If you are able, make sure you park on the streets around school, leaving Pine Ave clear for traffic flow. Dermont, Odette or Pollen are great walkable options and you will not be caught in the traffic around school.
The circle drive in front of the church is a "drop and go" or "pick-up and go" space. Please do not park and leave your car there. Also do not stop on the yellow lines outside the front of the Church. Broken yellow lines are a sign of no parking. The parks on the circle are disability access parks and should only be parked in if you have the correct mobility parking permit.
It is often easier to come just after the bell time to pick up your child. This allows them to gather belongings and make their way to you. This also means there is a flow to the carpark space as people are not waiting for a lengthy time to pick up their children.
Finally, to try and combat some of the congestion we are going to walk the Years 7 and 8 students with their younger siblings to Dermont Street for pick up. The Year 6 will go to the front of the Church. This will hopefully mean 55 families have an alternative collection point other than the Church carpark. If you would like your child to join this walking school bus to Dermont street please message the office or your class teacher and we will add them to the ''stride and ride'' walking school bus. If this is successful we may look into ''stride and ride'' walking school buses on Odette Street and Pollen Cres as well.

School Uniform
Our uniform has changed over to our Winter options. A reminder the School Uniform supplier is The Brand Makers at 6 Latham Court Frankton. You can visit in person or online at www.tbm.co.nz to purchase uniform. We have a very limited selection of uniform here at school and our priority is to ensure we are able to outfit those in need. Our uniform is very reasonably priced in comparison to other schools and most items can be worn year round. If you have any queries please come into the office.
Wheel Wednesday
We have a large number of new students and families at school who may be unaware of Wheel Wednesday. Every Wednesday at St Pius X is Wheel Wednesday. Students are able to bring their 'wheels' to school and use them during morning tea and lunchtime. Wheels can be bikes, scooters, skates and skateboards. To use your wheels you will need a helmet and any safety gear that is appropriate for your wheels. Children must stay at the back around the court area only.
