Principal's Message
Miss Erin Clayton

Kia ora koutou
We have made it to the end of term 1 and seem to have finally been met with Autumn weather. The rain has not dampened the spirits however with a beautiful response to our call to support Myanmar. We raised $385.30 across the school with our Mufti Mania. Thank you for your kind donations we know it is going to help those directly in need.
Also a huge thank you goes to the extended school community for the continued support of our Young Vinnies. Being able to give to our local community is so valuable especially in these hard times.
Please stay safe everyone as we enter the term break and Easter season and we look forward to seeing you for an action packed term 2 in two weeks time.

Continued work at the front gate
There are utility works on going at the front gate. This has changed the access and accessibility of the Church carpark. The parks under the trees at the entrance are now needed for a clearway and can absolutely not be parked in to enable a clear and safe access.
The carpark can only be a one way system following the arrows around.
If you are able, make sure you park on the streets around school leaving Pine Ave clear for traffic flow. Dermont, Odette or Pollen are great walkable options and you will not be caught in the traffic around school.

Language at School
It has come to our attention that a number of students are using inappropriate words and phrases in their home languages here at school. This has been particularly noted in our students that speak Malayalam. We will have ongoing conversations here at school if you could support us at home in reinforcing appropriate language for school, regardless of understanding the meanings.
Thanks for your support.

Lenten Appeal
Thank you for the generous donations that have came in this term. It was an amazing show of Alms giving during the Lenten season. The Vinnies really appreciate everyones support and care, this small effort makes a huge difference to families in our community.
We will have our Giving tree collection during Advent (term 4) later in the year continuing our support for the Vinnies.

School Uniform
A reminder the School Uniform supplier is The Brand Makers at 6 Latham Court Frankton. You can visit in person or online at www.tbm.co.nz to purchase uniform. We have a very limited selection of uniform here at school and our priority is to ensure we are able to outfit those in need. Our uniform is very reasonably priced in comparison to other schools and most items can be worn year round. If you have any queries please come into the office.
Leaving School Early
Please always sign your child out at the office if leaving before the end of the day. This is a Health and Safety issue as we need to know who is on school grounds in case of an emergency.
Walking down the drive to school and in the staff carpark
Please, for your child's safety, follow the footpath down the drive when walking to and from school. Do NOT cross the carpark or walk on the drive. Traffic may not see your child when reversing and using the carpark as a footpath puts your child in danger. If you are collecting your child from Ruru or Pukeko make sure to walk on the footpath around the Admin building by the library.
We are talking with drivers using the carpark about ensuring they are not parked over the footpath so pedestrian access is eased.
Moving overseas
Over this term a number of families have taken the exciting step to pursue opportunities overseas in Australia and America. This is a huge step and we wish those families well in their endeavours. The planning and preparation for such a move is never on impulse. Please if you know that you are leaving our school let us know as soon as possible. The best way is in writing to the office at info@stpius.school.nz. We are flexible with dates and times of your move and perfectly understand the reasons for it. If you are able to tell us sooner rather than later it helps the school to make plans. We have a large number of families on our waiting list who are trying to be part of our school community. Knowing our true numbers gives these families and ourselves certainty of a place available for their child. Thank you.
Wheel Wednesday
We have a large number of new students and families at school who may be unaware of Wheel Wednesday. Every Wednesday at St Pius X is Wheel Wednesday. Students are able to bring their 'wheels' to school and use them during morning tea and lunchtime. Wheels can be bikes, scooters, skates and skateboards. To use your wheels you will need a helmet and any safety gear that is appropriate for your wheels. Children must stay at the back around the court area only.
