As we move towards the end of the term, there is much happening across the school. Classrooms are busy with learning and staff are preparing mid-year reports which will provide an opportunity to celebrate the progress and achievements of our learners.
This is also an important time for us as a community as we continue our consultation around the future direction of St Pius X School. Thank you to those who have already shared their thoughts and aspirations for our school. Your voice is an important part of helping shape our future and ensuring we continue to provide the very best opportunities for our tamariki.
💬 Community Consultation – We Want to Hear From You
Thank you to everyone who has engaged with our community consultation process so far. As we continue to shape the future direction of St Pius X School, we would love to hear from more of our families and whānau.
We invite you to reflect on the following questions and share your thoughts with us:
• What do you value most about St Pius X School?
• What do you hope your child gains from their time at St Pius X?
• How well do we reflect our Catholic Special Character in the life of our school?
• What strengths do you see in our teaching and learning programmes?
• What opportunities do you see for us to improve?
• How can we strengthen partnerships between home, school, and parish?
• What would you like St Pius X School to be known for in the future?
Your feedback will help inform our future planning and the strategic direction of our school.
Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this important conversation.

📅 Progress and Achievement Interviews: Wednesday 24th June
⏰ School will close at 2:00pm on this day to allow interviews to take place.
Limited supervision will be available between 2:00pm and 2:45pm for families who require it.

We look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child's learning journey.
🇳🇿✈️ Planning a Move Overseas
Over recent years, we have seen a number of families make the decision to relocate overseas, particularly to Australia. We completely understand the reasons behind these decisions. For many families, being closer to extended family, employment opportunities and financial security are important factors when considering a move.
While we appreciate that these are significant life decisions, we ask that families let the school know of their intended departure date as soon as possible once plans have been confirmed.
Moves of this nature are often well planned and having advance notice helps us greatly with our school planning. It allows us to make informed decisions around staffing, classroom organisation and student placements. It also provides certainty for families currently on our waiting list who are hoping to join the St Pius X community.
If you are planning a move, please contact the school office or speak with me directly. We appreciate your support in helping us plan effectively for all of our learners and families.

📘 SchoolDocs – Access to Our School Policies
We are pleased to let our community know that our school policies are available online through SchoolDocs.
SchoolDocs provides access to our school’s policies and procedures, ensuring they are up to date and aligned with current legislation and best practice. We encourage families to review our publicly available policies at any time.
Each term, selected policies will be placed under review. We value community voice and welcome your feedback. If you would like to comment on a policy under review, please follow the prompts on the SchoolDocs website to submit your feedback.
If you have any questions about our policies, please feel free to contact the school office.
📈 Attendance Matters
With the beginning of 2026 all schools in New Zealand have been asked to have an attendance response plan based on the government STAR attendance structure. This plan is found on our Website in the Board document area. It outlines the steps of intervention and response. Please be aware that across the term students may have up to 5 days of absence without activating intervention. However even when an absence is explained, communication and action will still be triggered at 5, 10 and 15 days away from school.
Being at school every day and on time helps your child learn and do well. Why this matters • Away 1 day each week = 10 days missed in one term • Late 15 minutes every day = almost 2 days of learning missed School times 🕣 Start: 8.45am 🕝 Finish: 2.45pm
Please make sure your child arrives on time and stays for the full school day. You are welcome to wait at school for the 2.45pm bell. This is a nice time to talk with other parents. ⚠️ Please do not pick up children before 2.45pm unless there is a special reason (for example, a doctor’s appointment). If your child leaves early, please sign them out at the office.
✈️ Holidays Please plan overseas travel in school holidays. Taking one week before or after the holidays, with no other absences in the term, means your child does not need attendance support, although any holiday during term time is highly discouraged. Thank you for helping your child be at school every day. Every day counts.
Ngā mihi nui, Erin Clayton
SPORTS ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK
Congratulations Kenley Green who has been selected for the U13 Kiwi Inline Hockey Team! This talented group will represent New Zealand at State Wars 2026, the largest inline hockey tournament in the world, to be held in the United States this July.
Winter Sports Report
On Tuesday we sent four football, one hockey and two netball teams to the CIS Winter Tournament. It was a very successful day with all the teams applying themselves well. In the football the one team managed to get to the plate final. The hockey team also did well and they came third overall. In the netball, one of the teams was third in their division, after a count back. All the teams were a credit to themselves and the school in their dealings with others. Thanks to Mrs Hayde and Mrs Ngamaru for looking after the netballers, Mr Carlos Colonia & Ms Isabel Pariona for looking after the hockey team and Mr Brew, Mrs Millynn and Prajeesh Edakkattuparambil for looking after the football teams. Also a big thanks is due to Shervin George and Stella Diosta for transporting to and from the event.
Upcoming School Interviews
Please follow the instructions below to book your interview. Interview bookings will open on Friday 12 June and close at 3:00 pm on Monday 22 June. If you experience any difficulties making your booking, please contact the school office for assistance.
Please note: Interviews will not be held for Kiwi Class.

Tommo's Bakery As our school is growing, so are our Friday lunch orders from Tommos' and they have asked that I ring through the orders before 10:00am on Friday. Can you please tell your child to put their lunch order in before school or even the day before. Make sure they have the right change. Unfortunately, if they put in a late order (after 10:00am) , they will not be able to get their lunch for that day.
General Information Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to St Pius X School. Whether you are new to our school, or already part of our community, we hope this information helps answer your questions.
School Times
School starts at 8:45am and finishes at 2:45pm.
Please make sure your child arrives on time. We begin each day with prayer. If your child is late, they must go to the school office to sign in.
If you need to take your child out of school during the day, please sign them out at the school office. If your child returns after the appointment, you must sign them back in at the office.
Absences
We use an electronic roll to mark who is at school each day. Because of this, it is very important that you tell us if your child will be late or away. You can report an absence in these ways:
School website: stpius.school.nz (click on Absences)
Skool Loop app: You can download this onto your phone.
Phone message: Call 07 843 6554 and leave a message on the absence line.
If your child arrives late and does not sign in at the office, you may get a text message saying they are not at school.
If you have not reported your child’s absence by 10:00am, I will send you a text message. If we do not receive a reply from you, your child will be marked Truant, which means they are marked as away from school without a reason.
Extended Absences / Holidays
If you are taking your child out of school during the term for any reason, you must email the office a term in advance. Please include your child’s name, class, and the dates they will be away. We must report this information to the Ministry of Education.

YOUNG VINNIES VOLUNTEER AT THE COMMUNITEA DINNER
A group of our Young Vinnies generously volunteered at the recent Communitea Dinner held at St Luke’s church. They arrived early to help set up the tables before moving on to greeting the guests. Their next task was to serve dinner and dessert. They ended the night by clearing the tables and cleaning up the hall. The students carried out every task with enthusiasm, respect and genuine care for others. Their actions were a beautiful reflection of ‘Faith in Action’ and demonstrated the spirit of service at the heart of Young Vinnies. Well done, Young Vinnies!

The NZTD (travellerdeclaration.govt.nz) is an online system that travellers can use to complete a declaration before they travel into New Zealand. The new digital NZTD was launched in August 2023 and not many people know they can now do it online – replacing the paper card you used to fill out on the plane.
